Gambling ads are ruining sports.

They are harmful to children and youth, and they damage those who have a gambling addiction. Just like ads for tobacco and cannabis, they should be banned.

“Gambling ads are insulting to the audience, bad for children and youth, and they demean sports and its integrity. The sports stars who are part of these ads should know better.”

Legendary Children’s Entertainer

“Sports betting is big business. There is strong evidence supporting the great dangers that gambling poses to our citizens, especially to our young people. Why gamble on their future? Let's do something about it now!”

KARL SUBBAN

Retired school principal & father of three NHL players

“Ads to encourage gambling are terrible and disgusting. They have no place on our media. The damage done to young people and helpless victims of this addiction is immeasurable.”

The Rt. Hon.
ADRIENNE CLARKSON

“The federal and provincial governments have legalized this hailstorm of ads calling on us to gamble, and they get their cut. When governments use gambling to extract money from citizens you know that civilization is in decline”

JOHN RALSTON SAUL

President Emeritus PEN International

“I have witnessed lives destroyed by gambling and betting addiction and can only imagine with horror the effects of normalizing this in the way this is effectively doing. This is in complete disregard to the evidence available showing the negative and harmful effects, primarily on young people. Shame on the respective government systems allowing this in the first place. “

CLARA HUGHES

Canadian Olympic Medalist

“Gambling has enormous social costs for those that are most vulnerable in our society. Governments must be judicious and limit the circumstances in which it encourages gambling by advertising or any other means..”
